Abstract

Psychoanalytic critique is a critique based on the new psychoanalytic discourse. In this method of critique, the characters of the story, like clinical patients, are psychoanalyzed by the critic. Analysts find creative writing, such as poetry and fiction, to be a good ground for psychoanalysis. After becoming acquainted with psychoanalysis, literary critics have proposed a new approach to the literary text. The works of Mary Shelley and Ahmad Saadawi, due to their good characterization and the special relationships of the characters, have provided a suitable ground for such criticism. In order for a literary work to be able to be studied from this perspective, honesty in expressing the author and dealing with the realities of life and having characters with special and sometimes neurotic characteristics are necessary characteristics. All these features can be found in the works of these two authors. From this perspective, the researcher in this article, based on the five-factor model of McCray and Costa, has analyzed the two Frankenstein novels of Mary Shelley and Frankenstein in Baghdad, and the characters of these two works based on the five-factor model of personality Analyzes suffering, extroversion, conscientiousness, adaptability, and openness to the acceptance of experiences. The results show that the main characters of both novels were more closely related to the characteristics of the extroverted personality and took full advantage of the situations that the neurotic characters created for them throughout the story and drew terrifying scenes for them.
