Abstract

Plants are potential sources of phenolic compounds and flavonoids which are amongst the natural antioxidants produced by plants. The antioxidants are the metabolites capable to destroy free radicals and consequently, they are responsible for protecting the body.‌ E.viminalis is a medicinal herb in the Myrtaceae family. In the present study, the effect of different harvesting times on the phytochemical composition of E.viminalis essential oil in Lorestan Research Center was investigated. The total amount of phenol and flavonoids was measured using folin Siokaltive and aluminum chloride Respectively. In this study, Eucalyptus leaf essential oils were also identified using GC / MS method. The antioxidant activity of various extracts of the plant was determined by free radical degradation method with 2,2-diphenyl-1picyrilhydrazil (DPPH) and the ferric reducing antioxidant potential (FRAP) assay. Generally, the results showed that the Higher yield of phenolic, flavonoid and antioxidant activity were observed during spring and summer season respectively. I Based on the results, 43, 14 and 17 compounds were identified in the spring, summer and autumn season, respectively. The highest amennt of compounds in essential oil during the Summer, Spring, Fall, seasons was 8.1-cineol, alpha-pinene and trans-pinocarveol, respectively. In general, according to the results, it can be said that one of the most important factors affecting the amount of active plants ingredient, is the time of plant gathering.
