Abstract

Time and its value are among the issues that have been the focus of human attention since ancient times. This is also an important element of narration and storytelling, and theorists have focused on the issue of time in the narrative. Gérard Genette is one of these structuralist theorists, whose theory in this regard has been welcomed. Genette believed that there are three types of temporal relationships between narrative time and discourse time i.e. order, frequency, and duration. Amir Hossein Fardi is one of the contemporary writers who is famous for his short stories for children and teens, as well as the novels he has published. Novels: Esmaeil, Gorgsali, and Siah Chaman are among his works. In this research that was conducted the aim of studying the elements of narrative time in three novels: I Esmaeil, Gorgsali, and Siah Chaman, attempt was made to investigate these novels in terms of narrative time. The result of this study revealed that elements of duration, which include: interruption, deletion, summary, and scene, are used more in these three novels, and duration in the novel “Gorgsali” is more visible.
