Abstract

Corrosion is one of the most important factors in reducing the useful life of reinforced concrete structures. This phenomenon reduces the capacity of reinforced concrete sections. Therefore, the study of its effects is needed to better understand the behavior of faulty concrete structures. These effects include reducing the bond between rebar and concrete, reducing the cross-sectional area of steel or longitudinal cracks in concrete caused by rusting steel. These cracks reduce the strength of the coating concrete. Typically, framing structures are analyzed using beam and column members. The geometric and mechanical properties of these members are obtained by analyzing the sections. In section analysis, it is possible to study the corrosion effects on nonlinear analysis of sections and hence of concrete reinforced concrete structures. In nonlinear analyzes, the actual axis of the sections (rigidity center) calculated from the static relationship is displaced at height of the section. In this study, a layer method was used for section analysis, and based on the rigidity center and the plastic center, a computer program was written considering both pitting and uniform corrosion of longitudinal reinforcement and was used in the analysis of reinforced concrete sections. Also, the slip effects were added to analysis with and without corrosion. The results are presented in graphs such as moment-force interaction diagrams, flexural stiffness and capacity reduction due to all types of corrosion. Analysis results show that pitting corrosion has more damaging effects on structural capacitance graphs. Because in addition to reducing the cross-section, it also reduces the yield and ultimate strength of the reinforcements. Structural capacity decreases more with corrosion at large eccentricity, where steel plays a more effective role. Also, with increasing corrosion intensity in a constant time, the structural capacity decreases further. The slip also reduces the moment capacity based on the rigidity center at large eccentricity and also decreases the flexural stiffness of the structure
