Abstract
Rapid growth of urbanization in recent decades as well as ignoring the qualitative aspects of human life had left adverse effects on individual and social health and urban life. Assessment of the current status of life quality in cities is affected by external factors such as production technology, infrastructures, social relations, social institutions and environment and so on. Overall, in addition to the economic issues, quality of life considers social and environmental concerns as well. However, scientists believe in planning, particularly urban planning. Planning should be in line with the quality of life improvement. Accordingly, the study aims at investigating the relationship between the various aspects of quality of urban life and the effectiveness of each aspect on quality of life from the perspective of the studied sample. The research method is descriptive - analytical and based on desk and documentary studies, and surveys (field study) in Birjand. At the same time, 383 questionnaires were distributed in the areas of Birjand in proportion to population of each district which were studied in analyzing the quality of urban life consists of four main components: social, economic, environmental and physical-service. Analysis was done using statistical software and methods such as t-test and ANOVA, Tukey and Pearson correlation coefficient. The areas of Birjand were ranked using the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) regarding the quality of life indices, and finally, spatial distribution of the results was provided in the form of maps using ArcGIS. The results indicate that a significant difference exists among the areas of Birjand in terms of the studied indices and meantime, based on hierarchical analysis results from 13 metropolitan areas, districts 4, 5, 6 and 7 were place in the level of enjoying quality of life, districts 2, 8, 10, 11 and 12 in the half-enjoying, and districts 1, 3, 9 and 13 at the level of lacking quality of life
