Abstract

In order to investigate the effect of planting directions (north-south, east-west) on ecophysiological characteristics in intercropping of sunflower and local beans, an experiment was conducted in the research farm of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Zabol, in the form of split plot in a randomized complete block design with three replications in 2016. The experimental treatments were planting arrangement in two directions: north-south and east-west as a main agent, and The system of intercropping was carried out on five levels: 100% sunflower, 100% beans, 50% sunflower + 50% beans, 25% beans + 75% sunflower, and 75% beans + 25% sunflower. The results showed that planting in the east-west direction (opposite to the wind direction) had the highest active photosynthetic adsorption, the highest volumetric moisture content and the lowest soil temperature. Among sunflower and bean intercropping systems, the highest yield was related to treatment of 75% sunflower + 25% beans and 100% bean. The LER showed that the highest amount was obtained from 75% sunflower + 25% beans in the east-west direction. The results showed that in the current climatic conditions of the region and similar areas by cultivating the plants in the opposite direction of the wind, while reducing the evaporation, more yields are obtained.
