Abstract

Today, most countries have found empowerment as the most efficient way to achieve sustainable development. In fact, sustainable development is conceptually incomplete without empowering people. Empowerment as a process of socio economic change in rural environments includes enhancing the efficiency and increasing villagers’ employment and income, providing for the least levels of nutrition, accommodation, education and health. In this regard, the present research studies the factors affecting socio economic empowerment of rural families located in Central District and Zebrkhan District of Neyshabur County as well as obstacles and limitations against empowerment. This is a descriptive-analytical research in which 37 above-20-families village have been investigated. A wide range of indicators in each economic and social dimension was taken into account that was discussed in two levels of the family and the village. In filling in the village questionnaires, mainly local elites, the members of Islamic assembly of the village and village headmen were focused. In order to analyze the data obtained from questionnaires and field observation notes, the Analytical Hierarchy Process (AHP) and statistical and spatial analyzes were used. The results show that 51.35 percent of the villages under study are appropriate or very appropriate in terms of the seriousness of obstacles and 5.40 percent of them were in inappropriate and very inappropriate condition. For the economic level, these numbers were 18/93 and 8/1 respectively. Moreover, the statistical analyzes in this research confirm that there is no significant difference between the villages located in Zebrkhan District and Central District of Neyshabur County in terms of the seriousness of effects and socio economic restrictions
