Abstract

Nowadays the formation of process of economic empowerment in the form of a new rural development paradigm plays an important role equipping villagers to cognitive and decision-making skills to determine limits and priorities and optimal utilization of the opportunities available. The aim of this study was to analyze the barriers and limitations of the economic empowerment of households living in border villages (Case Study:Sistan region). This is a descriptive and analytical study based on documentary and field studies (questionnaires) and searching in online databases. The SPSS statistical analysis software was used to analyze the data and ArcGIS10 was also used to analyze spatial data. The results showed that border villages in Sistan regarding the severity of barriers and constraints of economic empowerment of households living in them (villages of Helmand and Zahak city) are different(p<0.05), thus, the highest economic barriers and constraints (mean 21.2) are in Gamshad village and the lowest severity is related to Jarike village (mean: 0.312). The results of the correlation showed that there is a relationship between the severity of obstacles and restrictions of economic empowerment and abundance of households covered by the Relief Committee (sig=0.000 and p= 0.412), also there is a significant relationship between mean of effective factors of economic empowerment of rural households at the level of 99% confidence ( p<0.05). Comparing the average intensity of obstacles or limitations involved in rural economic empowerment shows that environmental constraints, the cost of living and job opportunities with the average of 0.565, 0.489, 0.444 are in first to third rank
