Abstract

There are certain types of cities among the variety of existing ones which are known with terms, such as mining or extractive cities. These cities related to a city that forms from extracting mineral resources or provide areas of employment, increasing value-added and economic growth and development in the city. This study aimed at investigating the role of iron ore mines in immigration, physical development and job creation in Khaf city. The method used for analysis in this study is descriptive - analytical and survey. According to the targets in each of the chapters, documentary and survey methods are used for data collection. To analyze data, the labor market calculations and the location coefficient model, increasing employment, taxonomy and Holdren were used which results indicate that the exploitation of mines increase employment and immigration in the period of 2001-2011. Also about 13.11% of workers in this city, have an employment related to mining activities. Holdren model results indicate that 94% of urban growth over the years 2001-2011 was related to population growth. In survey, direct observation and filling questionnaire by Khaf citizens were used to assess the impact of iron ore mines’ role in the development of the Khaf city. After recording the information of variables in computer, data were described and analyzed using SPSS and EXCEL. It was proved that iron ore mines played a significant role in immigration and physical development of Khaf. With regular planning for activities related to mining, population stabilization, employment, life expectancy, security, improving living standards and finally sustainable development in the border areas can be ensured.
