Abstract

The replacement of herbal extract instead of chemical preservative in livestock and aquatic diets is nowadays highly regarded. This replacement induce reduces the side effect of the use of chemical preservatives. In this research, the effect of black grape seed extract on growth performance, blood parameters and antibacterial activity of Cyprinus carpio skin mucus has been studied. Therefore, 150 common carp fish with an approximate weight of 45.67 ± 3.32 g were randomly divided into four treatments and three replicates. Grape seed extract was added to basal diet at 0, 10, 20 and 30 g / kg and fish were fed 3% body weight for 59 days in 3 meals. Results showed that extract of black grape seed had significant effect on growth performance (final length, final weight, weight gain, thermal growth coefficient and feed conversion ratio) and fish survival rate (p≤0.05). Evaluation of hematological results showed that white blood cells increased significantly with increasing of extract (p≤0.05) and there was no significant difference in other hematological parameters (RBC, Hemoglobin, Hematocrit, MCV, MCH, MCHC, Lymphocytes, Neutrophils, Monocytes) (p≥0.05). The results of blood serum parameters showed that total protein and albumin increased significantly in the second extract (p≤0.05) and no significant difference was observed in the other parameters (p≥ 0.05), although improvement in the levels of indices It was observed in the tested treatments. The results of mucosal immunoassay showed that lysozyme, protease and immunoglobulin levels of common carp increased significantly with increasing grape seed extract. In conclusion, the results of this study indicate that the use of grape seed extract has some effect on some blood and immune parameters of common carp. Therefore, the use of black grape seed extract at the level of 30g/kg in the regular carp diet is recommended as an immune stimulant.
