Abstract
The relationship between psychology and literature has been the focus of researcher’s attention. Meanwhile, Carl Gustav J ung is a top theorist in the area of archetype and archetypical images. The archetypes of anima (the feminine aspect of a man’s psyche) and animus (the masculine aspect of the woman psyche) are among the most important archetypes. Aiming at better understanding Persian classic literary work, and assuming that anima and animus archetypes are present in lyrics if Persian literature, the present research attempts to descriptively and analytically study three prominent lyrical works imitated from the works of nezami Ganjavi i.e., shirin- va- khosro, majnoon – va leili and hasht behesht (eight paradises) of amir khosro Dehlavi in terms of anima and animus archetype. The results indicate that in the work under study, anima and animus bear the characteristics such as the connector of conscious and sub-conscious ego, symbol of wisdom, interpretation, betrayal of women and these archetypes are more apparent in hasht behesht of Amir Khosro dehlavi.
