Abstract

Poultry industry has particular importance because of supplying food proteins. In terms of investment, the poultry industry ranks second after the oil industry due to the superiority of poultry protein and its amino acid balance compare to the meat of other animals, thus its high acceptance and high income. Considering the importance of production factors in the efficiency of this industry as well as shortages of these factors in our country, their management is crucial. Nutrition, ventilation, lighting, temperature and moisture are important management factors that affect poultry performance. This field study was accomplished by means of visits, interviews and questionnaires to assess all management matters in the Sistan region. Collected data were compared by t test of SAS software. Results showed that density, storehouse area, ventilator, aeration, feeder, watered, thermometer and moisture tester of poultry houses were significantly different with its standards (P < 0/05); while for the other examined factors there was no significant difference between existing conditions and standards. The effects of different management factors on efficiency, feed conversion ratio, average weight and mortality were studied using GLMSELECT procedure of SAS software. Distance of poultry house from main road and position of water tank had significant effect on efficiency (P < 0/05). The position of inlets and outlets had significant effect on feed conversion ratio (P < 0/05). Daily feed consumption and number of veterinarian's visit of poultry house had significant effect on average weight of birds at the end of production period (P < 0/05). Distance between poultry house and city and main road had significant effect on mortality (P < 0/05). According to the results of present study as well as condition of the region, especially environmental condition, attention to ventilation and hygiene are especially required.
