Abstract
Synesthesia is a figure of speech which has long been used in Persian literature and is used in the poems of past poets, but its nomination and promotion took place in the contemporary era. This figure of speech, which is sometimes categorized as rhetorical and sometimes is regarded as linguistic and syntactic, is an important element of de-familiarization and attention grubbing in poetry. Hindi style poets have widely applied Synesthesia. Baba Faghani Shirazi and Mohtasham Kashani are among the most prominent poets of fifteenth century (A.D) (10th century A.H) in the Hindi style. The present research which aims identifying sonnets of poets under study attempts to analyze sonnets of these two poets in terms of Synesthesia application in a descry. To this aim, Synesthesia was analyzed as three forms: rhetorical, syntactic, and sense mixing in the poems of these poets. The results of this study suggest that Baba Faghani Shirazi has more frequently used Synesthesia in his poets than Mohtasham Kashani.
