Abstract

Important goods such as flour, vegetable oil and sugar are always supported by the government due to their importance in household consumption patterns and various applications. Price is considered as an important economic variable. Consumers and producers set their consumption and production decisions based on their prices, respectively. In this study, supply and demand functions were estimated by using theoretical model of two-stage least squares simultaneously. Coefficients are obtained from the estimated supply and demand functions, then an increase and decrease of 5 per cent change in Price Index is applied to analysis its effect on the welfare of producers and consumers for Sugar, flour and vegetable oil. Results showed that 5 percent increase in producer price index would increase and reduce the producers and consumers welfare, respectively and 5 percent decrease in producer price index would reduce and increase the producers and consumers welfare, respectively. Then, the consumer and producer surplus changes were anticipated using their accumulated and Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedastic during 2010-2014. The results showed that the predicted 5 percent increase in producer price index increased welfare and prosperity and consumers will be reduced by reducing the price index of 5 percent and reduce the welfare of producers will increase consumer welfare. Efficiency comparison of prediction methods indicated the superiority of Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average method performance in predicting Sugar and predicting consumer surplus of Vegetable oil and Autoregressive Conditional Heteroskedastic method in predicting Producer surplus of vegetable oil. Due to lack of variance effect, prediction of welfare changes for wheat flour was done using Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average method.
