Abstract

Many Iranian cities have a rich civilization that they can use as their competitive advantage. One of these cities is the city of Zabol, which, despite its unique identity, faces various urban problems, including in the urban landscape. The purpose of the current research is to investigate the role of indigenous designs in Sistan in the landscape quality and identity of Zabol city. For this purpose, by conducting documentary studies and interviewing experts, efforts have been made to achieve the goal of the research. In this regard, based on knowledge and familiarity with the urban landscape, urban identity and the city of Zabol, the first group was purposefully selected for semi-structured in-depth interview, and the other groups were also selected in a chain by these people. Sampling continued until the 13th person, and despite the fact that it seemed that new ideas were no longer created and theoretical saturation was achieved, the interviews continued until the 15th person. The findings indicate that the quality of the landscape of Zabol is not appropriate in the context of the use of local designs and identity building, and also the most important factor in realizing the identity through urban landscape design of Zabol is the use of cultural and native capacities of the region in public spaces. Finally, a proposed plan has been given for the sections of "market", "street", "square" and "barren land and inner-city public spaces".
