Abstract
The stories of Tala'e al-Fajr and Kifah Tayyaba are among the historical stories of Najib Kilani and Najib Mahfouz. In these stories, they have told the incident of the attack and occupation of the land of Egypt. In the shape of every story, there are different elements and components that story writers use in order to reach their goal. The purpose of this research is to investigate and analyze the character element in the two mentioned novels using a descriptive-analytical method and to identify the types of static, dynamic, heroic characters, etc. in this research. The research results show that for the main characters, Kilani has used more of the narrator, dialogue and description of actions and behavior, and for the secondary characters, more of the indirect method, describing the behavior, face and dialogue. Also, Kilani has been able to establish a special coherence between the actions of fictional characters and their names, as the actions and behavior of the fictional characters is a clear testimony to their names. In Najib Mahfouz's novel, the most important element of the story is the characters who play a dynamic or flat role in the story in the novel. He is a descriptive writer, that's why he describes the physical and mental details of each character well, and in drawing each of the characters It considers the normal form, that is, we see generality and inclusiveness in the description of the characters
