Abstract

War has long been one of the main themes of the world's novels; Because in fact, this phenomenon opens up a wide perspective for the storyteller. War literature is a literature that directly or indirectly describes war scenes and warriors and war tools, as well as the social, economic and political consequences of war. Iraq is one of the countries that has been continuously involved in long-term wars for many years, including the Iran-Iraq war and the Persian Gulf war, the fall of Baghdad and the occupation of Iraq by the Americans, and the civil war, and this caused Many stories with the themes and themes of war literature should be written in this country. Among the prominent stories in the field of war literature that won the 2018 Arabic Booker Prize; The novel "Hour of Baghdad" is written by Shahd al-Ravi (born in 1986). In this novel, this young Iraqi author has used magical realism to represent the unfortunate consequences of war in a romantic and romantic atmosphere. In this research, an attempt is made to investigate the themes of war literature in the novel "Hour of Baghdad" by relying on the descriptive-analytical method. These themes, which are actually the consequences of war, can be examined at four levels: economic consequences (poverty, unemployment, destruction of infrastructure). It deals with social consequences (immigration, identity crisis, loss of social security), cultural (stagnation of science, spread of superstition) and psychological consequences (disgust of war, sadness and depression, hopelessness and despair). The results show that the most important theme of war literature, which is reflected in the novel Baghdad Clock, is the theme of forced migration, which Shahd al-Ravi represents by using the school of magical realism.
