Abstract
In the epic, the elements of travel and hero are the main and important motifs. The hero of the epic in the journey ahead He is facing tests and risky stages, which are actually this journey and various stages of the way to reach Self-knowledge and perfection is the hero of the epic. The hero's journey theory was proposed by Joseph Campbell, a prominent researcher, author and translator in the field of mythology in the early years of the 20th century. The knowledge that Campbell gained from psychology made her study myths with a psychological approach. The archetype of Campbell's hero's journey was first introduced in the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces. This theory has now received the attention of theorists and consists of three stages. The first stage: departure, the second stage: the rite of honor and the third stage is the return stage. By passing through these stages, the hero can achieve spiritual perfection through inner transformation. Samnameh is one of the epic works after Shahnameh, the poet and the exact date of its composition are unknown, and due to the epic nature of Samnameh, it can be said that the element of hero and journey is one of its important and main motifs. In this descriptive-analytical research, the theory of Campbell's hero's journey in Samnameh is examined. The initial results of the research indicate that the journey of the hero - Sam - by passing many obstacles and levels and reaching the goal, is largely consistent with Campbell's theory of the hero's journey.
