Abstract

Communication is one of the most prominent human achievements, and in a simple sense, it is the transmission of a message that has different levels and tools. In general, communication takes place in two forms, verbal and non-verbal, which are complementary to each other. Non-verbal communication is an essential part of interpersonal communication and transmits one's words, thoughts, and feelings to others through gestures and body language. Persian epic poems are full of non-verbal symbols and interpretations due to their particular structure; Because epics are long poetic narratives that have been written in a heroic language and with national motives, and the poet of this type of poem has tried to make his work lively and dynamic by using non-verbal communication and by symbols. Non-verbal has used a lot to convey the meaning of its message to the audience. In this research, which has been done by descriptive-analytical method to identify and analyze nonverbal signs and messages in epic works, an attempt has been made to reflect non-verbal communication in six epic works: faramarznameh, banoogoshaspnameh, borzoonameh, kushnameh, shahryarnameh and samnameh, The result of the research indicates that nonverbal communication in Faramarznameh is very high due to the volume and heroic and epic structure of this work, and war tools and body language, especially hand behavior, are the most frequent components of non-verbal communication in this work.
