Abstract
One of the most important issues in structuralism is narratology and narrator which are greatly discussed by various theoreticians, yet the French Gérard Genette is regarded as the person who has conducted the most comprehensive studies on narrator and narration. As one of the most influential modern literary theorists, he has classified narration and narrator into two categories: in-story and out-story. In his opinion, the narrator of in-story narration is often the first person. Abbas Maroufi and Bijan Najdi are among the greatest modern Persian authors who have written modern and postmodern stories. They mostly deal with involuntary and incoherent recordings of the characters of the story to create a structure relying on lack of discipline and coherence in their works, as if times float each other. In this descriptive analytical study, it has been attempted to further understand the first person narrator in contemporary Persian fiction literature; thus, the first person narrator in each novel of these authors are examined. The results of this study show that the narrator's portrayal in Abbas Maroufi's "Symphony of the Dead" and Bijan Najdi's "Again in the Same Streets" has been more prominent, and in this regard, Abbas Maroufi has a greater approach to the first-person narrator.
