Abstract

Time is one of the most important issues and elements of narration. The element of time in a literary work creates poetic imagery and figures of speech. The issue of time has been considered by many structuralist theorists. Gerard Genette is one of the most famous and most important structuralist researchers in the area of time and narration. As the greatest narrative theorist, he distinguishes between the narrative time and the discourse time, and proposed his theory using three elements: order, duration and frequency. The novel “Azadeh Khanom va Nevisandeash” by Reza Baraheni is a post-modern novel. The novel “Avaze Koshtegan” by Reza Baraheni is inspired by the writer’s life. The present research that was done with the aim of investigating the element of narrative time in the two novels “Azadeh Khanom va Nevisandeash” and “Avaze Koshtegan”, attempted to descriptively analyze those novels. The result of this study revealed that duration and frequency in the two novels is more frequent. In the novel “Azadeh Khanom va Nevisandeash”, the writer has been more successful in terms of narrative time and its effect on acceptance by the audience.
