Abstract
The novel, as one of the most important types of stories, has a special place in the field of art and literature, and many of the masterpieces of fiction literature have been created in this format. Meanwhile, the historical novel is one of a variety of novels in which the author brings historical realities into a fictional imagination that aims to awaken, guide, and spell out a historical period. The outstanding Lebanese thinker, Georgi Zidan (1861- 1941), was able to preserve his name as one of the most important pioneers in Arabic historical writing by writing about 21 novels in Arabic and Islamic history. The new method of structuralism in the study of the story established a new literary science called narrative that seeks to discover patterns of narrative and applies to all valid narrative structures. One of the theorists in the field of narration is A.J. Greimas. He established three categories of narrative model (activator / object of value, sender / receiver, action / anti-activist) and three chain of narrative (executive, deductive, detached) that is applicable to all narratives. In this research, we tried to investigate and analyze the characters of selected stories (Ghade Karbala, Azra Quraish, Al-Abbas Yavar Rashid), Gurji Zidan based on the model of the work of Grams, based on the analytic-descriptive method. The result of this scientific inquiry is that this narrative model is successful in investigating the characters of the novels, and the novels have a coherent narrative structure.
