Abstract

Enterococci are an important and diverse group of bacteria that cause disease in humans and animals. These bacteria are present in human and animal gastrointestinal tract, in soil, water and food, which has always been considered as one of the major nutritional problems of people in developing countries, including Iran. The present study was carried out to determine the contamination of food products supplied to Enterococcus faecalis bacterium in Zabol. In this research, Enterococcus fecalis bacteria were collected from 50 red meat samples, 50 chicken, 50 vegetable samples and 50 fruit samples using conventional microbiological methods including growth in 5% salt and different degrees of temperature. The results were that vegetables (26%), fruits (21%), chicken (32%) ،and red meat (28%) infected with enterococcus faecalis. The results of this study indicate that enterococci are widely present in food. Therefore, it is recommended that the health education and culture development of sanitation, along with health inspections and experts in the field of food safety, should be institutionalized in order to control the health risks arising from them.
