Abstract
“Promotion of virtue and demotion of vice” is an issue that has been the focus of attention of poets since the beginning of forth century A.H. Even in epic poems of Ferdowsi wisdom, advice and preachment is seen based on the events of the story. Ferdowsi promotes the good and disapproves of evil all through Shahnameh; and not only his poems have grabbed attention of epic poets, but also in terms of moral themes poets who favor didactic literature have focused on these poems. Therefore, the present descriptive-analytical research attempts to analyze the act of “promotion of virtue and demotion of vice” as an important facet of didactic literature in Shahnameh of Ferdowsi. It appears that while compiling the grand work of Shahnameh, Ferdowsi showed special attention to didactic themes such as “promotion of virtue and demotion of vice” as well as dealing with epic narratives and themes. He has also combined spirituality with epic in his poems.
