Abstract
Introduction and Purpose: Ornamental birds are an integral part of our environment and they often can be found in our homes, especially those birds which are unique and beautiful. This study aimed at identifying the parasites in digestive system of bird. Identification of the parasite of birds available in birds’ shops in Zahedan city is very essential to control the pollution. Method: This study was done on the ornamental birds available in the bird’s shops of Zahedan over a period of six months. 70 samples of birds’ Faeces were gathered from birds’ shops in Zahedan which this number equals to 782 ornamental birds. After the transportation of samples to the Laboratory of Parasitology, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Zabol, in order to identify gastrointestinal parasites using conventional methods of parasitology (flotation and direct expansion), birds Faeces’ samples were tested and parasite eggs and their species were identified by the valid detection keys. Results and Discussion: Analyzing the samples, 229 birds were identified as having no infections and 553 birds showed a positive result for gastrointestinal parasites. Based on our study in Zahedan, ornamental birds showed a relatively high result for gastrointestinal parasites, thus the best ways for the disease control and prevention are: 1- To disinfect birds’ cages, 2- To clean the storage place of pollutions 3- To find a suitable place for the ornamental birds and 4- To separate them from other animals. Moreover, the following conditions can be effective in the disease control: Setting the environment’s humidity and adding preventative medicine with adequate doses in the birds’ diet.
