Abstract
Energy is the main constraint of poultry feed, which is mainly from cereal grains. The aim of this experiment was the determination of the Apparent Metabolizable Energy (AME) of two varieties of wheat (i.e., Aflak and Chamran II) and barley (i.e., Zahak and Nomar) with or without supplemental enzyme, in growing Japanese quail. Quail chicks were fed the standard diet from hatch to d 20 of age and then 320 chicks were randomly allotted to the experimental pens with almost similar body weight and received dietary treatment for 5 days. Results showed that the effect of the experimental groups on the apparent metabolizable energy of type of grain has been replaced is not significant but for the type of grain used and enzyme levels, it was significant (P < 0.05). Also the first varieties had more apparent metabolizable energy than the variants in type II. The effect of the experimental groups with enzymes on the apparent metabolizable energy was evaluated and its value at the level of 0.15 percent was 2883.66 kcal/kg.
